5 Ways the Internet Has Changed the World

The internet has only really been around for most people for less than 20 years, yet its impact on the world has been immense. What follows are five ways the internet has changed the world.

Communication

Remember the days when you had to pick up a piece of paper and a pen in order to write to someone? And then you would have to go through the process of putting the letter in an envelope, stamping it and taking it to a post office to send. All this, and the card you sent for Christmas would invariably arrive sometime around Easter...

5 Ways the Internet Has Changed the World

But that was before the arrival of the internet. With the internet came e-mail, and then a bit later VoIP, Instant messaging and video calls. Now you can send a letter to someone halfway across the world, confident that it will arrive almost instantly. You can have telephone conversations online, and even video chats, so granny in South Africa can see her grandchildren in Australia and talk to them like they were in the same room.

This doesn't even include social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace, which allow people to communicate with a large number of friends at a time, as well as to post pictures and comments.

Entertainment

In the days before the internet, it we wanted to watch TV, we had to watch whatever was being shown by the networks. If you missed an episode, and weren't able to record it, that was it unless you managed to see a rerun. Now, with the rise of the internet, you can not only download whatever episode of whatever series whenever you want, you can also download movies, music, games and more.

It used to be that to be discovered as a musician or actor, you had to go to auditions and be "discovered by agents and directors or music company executives. Today, all you need to do is post a video of yourself on YouTube or MySpace, like Justin Bieber or Lily Allen.

With the internet, you no longer have to wait for a friend to visit if you want to play multiplayer games. There are now numerous games that you can play online against people all over the world. There are even games like Second Life, where people are able to log on to a virtual world and interact with other people. They are able to buy property, create works of art and have relationships.

News

With the internet came a different form of news. You used to have to rely on the mainstream media for your daily dose of news. You know how it went, every night at 7 the kids would have to be dead quiet because dad had to watch the evening news, and the stories of butlers having to iron the morning newspapers for their wealthy masters. The news was basically fed to you, you weren't able to go out and find different opinions.

Nowadays, you are able to go out and find the news. You can read an article on the gulf oil spill on the Time Magazine site, and then read one from a different point of view from CNN. The news is also no longer just being reported by journalists and mainstream media. There have been many times where the larger news companies have been scooped by smaller sites, or even blogs, as in the case of Michael Jackson's death where TMZ.com was the first to report that he had been taken to the hospital.

Information

One of the biggest advantages the internet has had to our daily lives is that now we can find a piece of information anywhere in the world where there is internet access. Need info on the Mount St. Helen's eruption? The release date of the latest Artemis Fowl book? Or even instructions on how to tie certain boy scout knots? In just a few seconds, you can find millions of sites that give you just what you are looking for. No more spending hours searching through the library for me...

Business

Just about every type of business, from large news corporations, to small clothing stores have websites to promote themselves and their products. New methods of business have even started due to the web, such as people making money from blogs and websites they have started, web design companies, and on-line shops that have thrived with many people choosing on-line shopping over going to regular shops.

Definition of Marketing Mix - Product, Price, Place and Promotion

Getting the marketing mix right for your product or service means you are covering all of the important bases in your marketing campaign. Here is a definition of marketing mix and a description of its main components.

The term marketing mix refers to the primary elements that must be attended to in order to properly market a product. Also known as The 4 Ps of Marketing, the marketing mix is a very useful, if a bit general, guideline for understanding the fundamentals of what makes a good marketing campaign. Here is a brief description of each component of the 4 Ps of the marketing mix.

Product: The marketing mix concept has its roots in the 1950s U.S. corporate marketing world, and the practice of marketing has obviously evolved tremendously since this term was invented. One of the changes is that there are a lot more services available nowadays, such as those available online. Also, the distinction between product and service has become more blurry (e.g., is a Web-based software application a product or a service?). Either way, product here refers to products or services. The product you offer needs to be able to meet a specific, existing market demand. Or, you need to be able to create a market niche through building a strong brand.

Definition of Marketing Mix - Product, Price, Place and Promotion

Price: The price you set for your offering plays a large role in its marketability. Pricing for offerings that are more commonly available in the market is more elastic, meaning that unit sales will go up or down more responsively in response to price changes. By contrast, those products that have a generally more limited availability in the market (but with strong demand) are more inelastic, meaning that price changes will not affect unit sales very much. The price elasticity of your offering can be determined through various market testing techniques.

Place: This term really refers to any way that the customer can obtain a product. Provision of a product can occur via any number of distribution channels, such as in a retail store, through the mail, via downloadable files, on a cruise ship, in a hair salon, etc. The ease and options through which you can make your product available to your customers will have an effect on your sales volume.

Promotion: Promotion is concerned with any vehicle you employ for getting people to know more about your offering. Advertising, public relations, point-of-sale displays, and word-of-mouth promotion are all traditional ways for promotion. Promotion can be seen as a way of closing the information gap between would-be sellers and would-be buyers. Your choice of a promotional strategy will be dependent upon your budget, the type of offering you are selling, and availability of said promotional vehicle.

Marketing has come a long way from the 4 Ps of yesteryear, and yet understanding this marketing mix is for your product remains very relevant today. The marketing mix serves as an excellent touchstone for continually checking that you are covering all of the bases in your marketing campaign.

Real Estate Marketing Slogans; A Brand Of One

Real Estate Marketing slogans arouses interest in your
audience and can be the vehicle that helps establish
your "name brand" and invigorate your real estate
career.

A good, well crafted slogan can propel your business
in quantum leaps, while a poorly considered one can
be as effective as none at all. Real estate
marketing slogans can work equally well online and
offline, but they must be good enough to appeal to
mass, targeted audiences.

Consequently, agents work hard and long for the right
words to coin the right phrases, for the perfect
slogans. After all, their slogans may be powerful or
aspiring enough to define their careers.

Real Estate Marketing Slogans; A Brand Of One

Realtor Alert! Real estate marketing slogans don't
have to be over intellectualized to create huge "brand
names." Catchy and clever works every time.

For example, Century 21, ERA, & Coldwell Banker are
national and/or regional real estate companies whose
corporate names serve as their "real estate marketing
slogans". Examples of some gigantic, non-real estate
companies are Xerox, IBM, Pepsi and Coke.

Successful Realtors know the importance of using real
estate marketing slogans to create "name brands", but
when conjuring up a slogan for yourself why not
something as simple as your name.

If Mike, Bill and Hillary can pull it off you can,
too. Of Course you know who I mean, which epitomizes
the power of a name.

Creating A Slogan!

Now, I can go to the yellow pages, write down a bunch
of real estate marketing slogans and throw a bunch of
them at you to jump start your creative juices, but
you can do that yourself.

A more constructive approach in creating your own
slogan is to make a list of 10 slogans that reflect
who you are, what niche real estate market you want to
be known for, and your interests and personality in
general.

Use the yellow Real Estate Agents section of your
local yellow pages to get ideas, then strive for
phrases that uniquely characterize you.

Imagine being the Madonna, or "leave the driving to
us" of the real estate industry.

Is it possible? Absolutely, but you'll have to create
a slogan first! Then you'll need to use and publicize
it every opportunity you get; in your ads, on your
business cards, letter head, website, vanity car tag,
etc.

Don't expect instant success right out of the gate.
It'll take a while, but you'll be amazed at how much
you can accomplish in a year or so. And if you have a
real estate marketing system that reaches a minimum of
10 prospects a day the numbers can quickly add up in
your favor.

10 contacts a day x 20 days a month = 200 contacts a
month

200 contacts a month x 12 months a year = 2,400
contacts a year

Without too much effort you can passively market your
slogan to a minimum of 2,400 prospects a year.

I wonder what impact having your marketing slogan on
your car would have?

No matter where you live, or what market you're in
you're missing out on massive amounts of free
marketing if you don't have a car tag of some kind
advertising the fact that you're a Realtor.

And what about advertising your slogan through the
penny, nickel and dime publications? Think cheap
advertising, high visibility, and lots of readers of
your slogan to drive business opportunities your way.

So, create your own unique, real estate marketing
slogan; then publicize it heavily; freely and/or
inexpensively, but heavily.

Can you see the impact that this might have on your
real estate marketing results? I can!

Fill Out an Application For Walgreens Online - Or Should You?

Are you looking for information on how to fill out an application for Walgreens online? There is a lot of information posted on the web on how to do this, but I have not found many sources that give you information about the company you are researching. This information will help you in the interview process, if you do decide to pursue a career with them. As you know, the more that you know about a company that you are interviewing with, the better your chances of landing that job will be.

History Lesson:

This story begins with a man named Charles R. Walgreen, Sr. He was a young man who was born near a town named Galesburg, Illinois. At the young age of 16, he had his first experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry, working for Horton's Drugstore, and making a week. It was a job that he took after he accidentally cut off a part of his middle finger, leaving him unable to participate in sports. In 1893, Charles and his family moved to Chicago, where 1,500 established drug stores already competed for business. Determined to not depend on his family, he worked for many of Chicago's leading pharmacists, and became increasingly knowledgeable, at the same time as increasingly frustrated. All he could see were the old-fashioned methods of running a drugstore and servicing customers. At this point, Charles knew that he had to open his own pharmacy, and did this very thing in 1901.

Fill Out an Application For Walgreens Online - Or Should You?

A key to Walgreen's tremendous success laid in his new innovative store design, unparalleled by his competition. He installed brighter lights, which gave his store a more appealing look and feel. He widened aisles, which gave everything a more welcoming feeling. He improved the selection of merchandise and products, all at the same time of keeping products affordable. He was famous for his "Two Minute Drill." Every time a customer would call in for a non-prescription item, Charles would repeat the order out loud and slowly. This would give his assistant ample time to prepare the order, and while Charles was on the phone with the customer, discussing the weather and current events, his assistant would be at the door with the customer's order by the time that he got off of the phone.

For many years, Chicago's south side would remain the location for Walgreens' growth, and by 1919, there were 20 locations, and they continued to grow at a rapid pace. In fact by 1929, there were 525 locations, including locations in New York City, Florida, and other major markets.

Due to the companies insistence on innovation and commitment to their customers, growth and prosperity would continue to be an ally for Walgreens, and they opened their 1,000th store in 1984. Today, they have 425 new locations opening every year and have more than 7,000 stores in total.

Employment Opportunity:

The career opportunity at Walgreens is vast, and I can understand why you are looking for information on how to fill out an application for Walgreens online. Whether you are looking for a position in one of their neighborhood locations, distribution centers, or pharmacy, there is a position for nearly everyone. Their Corporate location offers many career options as well, ranging from supply chain, marketing, IT, finance, merchandising, and human resources.

Benefits:

Their list of benefits are very appealing. I will touch on only a few highlights, because the list goes on and on. They offer comprehensive medical and dental coverage, company paid life insurance, paid disability leave, holiday pay, and how can you work for a pharmacy without having prescription coverage? They offer that as well.

As you can see, Walgreens is a great company with a long history of success and stability. They offer many reasons why you should pursue filling out an application online or in person.

As always, I wish you success in your search for your dream job.

Top 10 Salon & Spa Promotions and Marketing Ideas

1. Networking and Connecting to gain the Leading Edge.

Getting out and making a name for yourself is important. It's not enough to place a sign out front and run an advertisement in the paper and wait for the phone to ring. You are more likely to get business from people who have made contact with you or know you. Participate in your community and join groups where you can network with people in your suburb or town, you'll be able to make connections, get the word out about your salon and spa and bring in some new clients. Get out, meet people and increase your business visibility.

2. Stealth Marketing

Top 10 Salon & Spa Promotions and Marketing Ideas

Use Viral Marketing to build your brand awareness and enhance your marketing efforts. By using pre-existing social networks like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter you can get the word out and create buzz for your salon and spa. Stealth marketing can encompass social networks, text messages, blogs and blog posting all with the purpose of gaining visibility and increasing your marketing objectives.

3. Email Marketing

As a day Spa, Beauty or Hair Salon owner your client list is a precious asset. Consider the lifetime value of a client. How much does each of your clients spend on average per month, per year and over a lifetime? It costs anywhere from 5 to 8 times more to gain a new client as opposed to retaining your clients. Therefore, you need to place a strong emphasis on keeping existing clients. Keeping in touch with your clients to stay top of mind is important to gain repeat business. Email Marketing is a highly effective way to build and maintain relationships.

4. Praise from Happy clients

The marketing giants use celebrity endorsements (testimonials) to expose their products and give their products credibility and appeal. You too can get testimonials from your happy clients. Identify people who can influence your target market and get them to endorse your treatments and techniques. Get key leaders within your community to try your products and treatments for free and get their feedback in writing. Get their permission to use their feedback, comments and photos in your promotional material.Endorsements can come from friends, the most powerful endorsement is when friends and clients recommend your product or service to another friend. This is powerful word of mouth advertising and more believable than any other form of endorsement.

5. The Power of Free!

We all like getting a little bonus, a gift, a little something extra. Your clients do, too. The acronym "GWP" stands for "Gift with Purchase". As the name suggests, a GWP is an item that is given to your client when she spends above a specified amount on beauty treatments, hairdressing or skin care products. The Gift with purchase (free item) could be anything from cosmetics, skin care products, hair care products, salon voucher, product samples, etc. Free offers for example Buy 10, Get One free, Buy a Facial and Pedicure and Get a Free Manicure adds transactional value and enhances allure. Free introductory offers entice clients to trial a product.  Free offers help with the buying decision and increase sales.

6. Referral Programs

Getting clients through referrals is one of the best ways to build your business. Have a referral incentive program in place to encourage clients to refer business to you. Having a specific referral program gets people thinking about who they can refer to you. A referral program encourages word of mouth advertising. Make it a habit to ask your clients for referrals. Tell them you would really appreciate it if they could recommend you to anyone who would be interested in a cut/colour/any service you provide." And of course tell them about your referral incentive program - let them know what's in for them.

7. Effective Words that Sell

Copywritingis the use of words to promote your salon and spa. You know the saying, "It's not what you say, but how you say it. You can tell clients we cut hair, do facial and waxing. Or you can start defining your product or service in a whole new light. Literally turn the spot light on what you say.

Before: We sell xyz products

After: The Best Clinically Proven Anti-ageing Formulation for Fine Lines and Wrinkles.

Before: We do Facials

After: Our Facials will Rejuvenate your Skin, Leaving it Looking Radiantly Healthy and Feeling Absolutely Fabulous.

Every word in every single message, advert and presentation forms a perception, either good or bad. Choose your words wisely. Too many salon and spa owners study what the competition is doing and do and say the same. Make you words count, make them unique, succinct, persuasive, enticing, juicy and delicious.

8. A Niche Strategy to Focus your Marketing efforts

Don't try to be everything to everyone. Focus on your specific niche. Know what makes you different from your competitors. Analyse your competitor's strengths and weaknesses. Offer more value by differentiating your specific treatments and results. One of the biggest niche strategy advantages is the ability to quickly become a dominant player your specific area of expertise. There are salons that cater specifically for rejuvenation, slimming, tanning, hair design, waxing and massage. Niche marketing can be a focused strategy at a niche group such as pregnant women, teenagers, couples, men. A massage and relaxation niche may encompass Yoga, Shiatsu, Meditation and an array of Massage techniques such as deep tissue, Swedish, aromatherapy and Thai massage. Spas are increasingly offering unique services and products to differentiate themselves from the usual facials and body treatments. A new spa niche may be carved out with Asian healing practices and rituals.

9. Win them over and Build relationships

Treat each client like they are special. Listen sincerely to their concerns. Communicate with your clients, what are their interests, likes, dislikes. Educate your clients on the many benefits of your service and products. Have promotional tools such as educational Pamphlet/Flyer/Email/Booklet/Blog/eBook which includes interesting and useful information. Make sure your clients are pampered, comfortable and give them your full attention. Recognise that you serve clients, that client relationship is part of your job. Be helpful, friendly and courteous at all times.

10. Bold & Beautiful Business.

Who gets the attention? Attractive men and women, the loud mouth and the exceptional offer. Start attracting attention to your salon and spa. Have attractive staff with flawless skin, well groomed with full make-up. You think I'm joking, but its fact that good looking people attract more business. And as a salon and spa, you are in the health and beauty business, so your people need to look the part. Would you go to an overweight personal fitness trainer, or would you want the lean muscular trainer? Who gets the attention? The budget salon with posters on the wall or the salon with a gorgeous reception, water feature, glossy magazines, top notch furnishing and finishes. We know that packaging is everything; clients pay big money for professional skin care because the marketing messages tell us its special and the packaging supports the message. Is your salon and spa supporting your marketing message? Attractive people, places and objects are attractive because they literally attract attention and interest. Is your salon and spa attractive and attracting attention? Attractive refers to everything: your marketing messages, the way you answer the phone, answer questions, the way you present yourself, your advertising. It all needs to be bold, beautiful, attractive, and appealing to draw people in.

Legal Issues Concerning Copyright in Internet Marketing

Copying someone's work has never had any respect - not in the past, not today, not in school, not at work and especially not in business. There are copyright issues that you will have to adhere to as an internet marketing business owner. Otherwise, you could violate ethical issues and even get into legal problems should someone complain. In internet marketing, copyright legal issues are such a concern mainly because of the nature of the environment online, where much of the content provided is for free.

Copyright and plagiarism

Copyright refers to the legal right to control reproduction and/or use of an original work. Usually, this right is given to the artist, writer or publisher of the work. If something is protected by a copyright, it means that its use or reproduction is restricted or controlled. Anyone wishing to use the content has to have the correct permission from the owner of the copyright.

Legal Issues Concerning Copyright in Internet Marketing

Copyright and the Internet

Copyright infringement is related to plagiarism, the act of negligent or deliberate reproduction of words, thoughts or ideas either in part (as in the case of direct excerpts) or in full and then claiming them as original. Online and off, this is considered illegal. Many writers, professionals and business owners have been unmade because of copyright infringement. Interestingly enough, plagiarism is a word derived from plagiarus, which is Latin for 'kidnapper'.

Copyright infringement is considered a virus on the internet and is not easily forgotten. Even offline, in the traditional business environment, copyright infringement remains a problem. The internet provides such an excellent opportunity for people to cooperate and share information and then allow access to it for free. The problem is that some people believe the word 'free' is a license to obtain content, reproduce it and use it to their own advantage.

This is false reasoning. Just because someone writes or shows content online that may be accessed free of charge does not mean you could take it and pass it off as your own or use it for some commercial purpose. You cannot, for example, take a few paragraphs from an article on a book, website or blog, copy them and then use them on your own website without acknowledging the author or writer or asking permission to republish it.

Bits and pieces

There is, however, a gray area in copyright legal issues when it comes to internet marketing. Copyright, for one, has a limited time period of coverage and will lapse. There are also content that are made available through public domain. When content does enter a lapse period or if it's found in a public domain, it is quite possible that someone could take that content and plagiarize it without actually committing a copyright infringement. So does that make it legal? What about the copyright legal issues?

In this case, the issue probably just escapes the legal restrictions and enters ethical domain. Remember that not everything that is legal is always right. You cannot, for example, use someone else's work and claim it as your own without their permission and believe in your heart you aren't cheating.

The ethical side of internet marketing

All businesses should be ethical and legal. Since internet marketing is such an excellent medium for business, it would be such a waste to abuse how it works. It has its drawbacks, true, but it doesn't have to break laws. Furthermore, it exposes your business to unnecessary trouble. Once content has been published online, it can be extremely difficult to take it back, particularly if people have already seen it or used it. You do not want to be labeled as a plagiarist or a violator of copyright because then you will not be seen as a legitimate internet marketer.

Furthermore, your internet marketing website will also suffer from your carelessness. If you violate any copyright legal issues, your website will be penalized, rendering it useless and making you, the internet marketer, essentially an outcast. You lose your search rankings and in effect, your customers and your business.

Protecting yourself from copyright infringement

If there is content online or offline that you find interesting or useful and want to use for your internet marketing business, always check the copyright protection first. Usually, the copyright notice is indicated on the material. If it's not, it's probably copyrighted anyway unless the author, illustrator or owner gives his permission to reprint or reproduce his content. If the use of content is freely allowed and contains information that is not considered unlawful, it's safe to republish it. If you will be offering original content of your own, it's also important to protect it with a copyright. That is, unless you want to allow others to reproduce your content and use it. This is a generous act on your part and will benefit plenty of interested users.

Business Models, Advantages and Limitations of Internet Marketing

The methodology of marketing the products and services over the World Wide Web is known as internet marketing. Internet marketing fastens together the technical and creative aspect of internet and includes designing, development, advertisement and sale. It is also known as web marketing, e-marketing, i-marketing or online marketing.

There are different business model associated with this:

o E-commerce: This approach consists of selling goods and services directly to consumers or to businesses based on business to consumer (B2C) or business to business (B2B) models respectively.

Business Models, Advantages and Limitations of Internet Marketing

o Affiliate marketing: In this technique, one person develops the product or the service and this is sold by other active sellers for some share of profit. For the same purpose, related marketing material such as sales letter, tracking facility, affiliate links, etc. are generally provided by the product owner.

o Lead based web sites: Here, the organisation generates value by attaining sales leads from its web sites and publishing or sale of advertising, one to one approach, geo-marketing and geo-location depending on the individual requirements.

Internet marketing provides number of advantages to businesses as well as to consumer.

o Marketing through internet is cost effective. Organisations can reach to extensive audience in a small portion of traditional marketing budget.

o Internet marketing has greater capabilities to spread the information to global audience.

o This marketing technique allows customers to research and buy the product or service according to their own convenience.

o Instant response is unique benefit one can get through internet marketing.

o It not only includes the digital media like e-mail, internet, and wireless media but also refers to the management related to electronic customer relationship management and management of customer data digitally.

o The medium has benefit of easily measuring statistics. All aspects of campaign through internet marketing can be easily traced, measured and tested and it therefore helps in determining the most appealing offers.

However there are some limitations and security concerns attached with internet marketing.

o This tactic requires consumer to use the latest technologies rather than the traditional media.

o Tangible goods offered via internet marketing can not be touched, tasted or smelled by the shoppers. However, there are some industry standards exist which reassure consumers through return policies and in-store pick up services.

o One major concern that customers have is whether they receive exactly what they paid for. To overcome this problem, online merchants have invested in building strong consumer brands on sites like eBay, Amazon.com, Overstock.com, etc. with e-commerce solutions.

o Sometimes the low speed internet connection becomes the barrier. If one is connected through mobile device or through dial up connection, the big and complicated web sites cause delays in content delivery to the consumer.

o Some consumers hesitate to purchase product from internet due to leakage of their personal information. Yet there is option of opting-out which removes information from database but not all the people are aware of that. Now there are some payment options in which you do not need to give your credit card details instead the payment gateway maintains your transactions with the help of your email id only.

The concept of 4Ps has been long used for the product industry while the latter has emerged as a successful proposition for the services industry.

The 7Ps of the marketing mix can be discussed as:

Place - It refers to the place where the customers can buy the product and how the product reaches out to that place. This is done through different channels, like Internet, wholesalers and retailers.

Promotion - It includes the various ways of communicating to the customers of what the company has to offer. It is about communicating about the benefits of using a particular product or service rather than just talking about its features.
